Close to the Congolese border in a magnificent setting encircled by steep lush green hills is Lake Kivu. It is one of the largest lakes of the country and certainly the most beautiful. Accommodation exists in the three main resort towns of Gisenyi, Kibuye and Cyangugu. Of these Gisenyi is the most important and is set on a beautiful sandy beach. The three towns are linked by charter boat and is a wonderful Way to see the fishermen in their dugout canoes. On the water Pelicans sailing past and on the shores Crowned Cranes and beautiful Kingfishers can be seen.
