Rwanda has a temperate year round climate seldom exceeding 30 degrees by day and less than 15 degrees by night. Of course the upper slopes of Virunga Mountains can be cooler, and low lying areas close to the Tanzanian border can be warmer. The wettest time is February to May. |

Regulations can change but at the moment citizens of UK, Germany, USA, South Africa and Sweden do not need a visa. For all others this can be obtained on arrival for a fee of sixty dollars. |

The currency is the Rwanda Franc. The preferred currency is the US Dollar. Credit cards are accepted at major hotels in Kigali. |
The local language is Kinyarwanda. French and English are official languages and both are widely spoken. |

A certificate for Yellow Fever is required. Malaria is strongly advised although most of the country is at high altitude. Tap water should not be drunk. Bottled water is readily available. |
Dress is informal. For the days light clothing is preferential and maybe a light sweater for the evenings. Heavier clothing is advised for The Parc des Volcans and Nyungwe. A waterproof jacket may come in handy in the moist mountain areas. |

Rwanda has some of the best roads in East Africa. All major towns are connected by luxury bus services. Air charters are available and easy to reserve. |
Besides good western food with a strong Belgium influence local dishes to be tried include goat kebabs, grilled tilapia (lake fish) matoke (cooked banana) and Ugali which is a stiff maize porridge. |

| How to get there | ||||
There are several international airlines serving the capital Kigali. Among them Kenya Airlines, Rwandair Express, SN Brussels, South African, Ethiopian and Burundi. The airport is located just ten kilometers from the city. |
